Foothills School Division looks forward to provincial commitments to education funding

High River, AB: School Division (FSD) is anticipating the details of the Government of Alberta’s budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year and forward to working with Alberta Education to learn what the February 27, 2025, announcements mean for FSD and its students.
Foothills School Division and other school boards across the province expect to receive funding profiles in the coming weeks. These profiles will outline the specific funding to each board and detail a financial picture for the school year ahead. The Division is committed to utilizing its resources in a manner that maximizes efficiencies and focuses on student learning.
On February 15, 2025, the construction funding for a new grade 10-12 high school in Okotoks for Foothills School Division was included in a School Construction Accelerator Program announcement made by the Ministry of Education. As noted in a statement made by FSD on February 15, the new high school has been a priority for FSD since 2015, and the Division is looking forward to building this learning facility.
Foothills School Division is dedicated to innovative solutions and community partnerships that help us navigate any financial outlook and continue to deliver exceptional educational experiences. The Division calls on its partners in education to inform budget decisions by participating in the Ideas that Make Cents funding priorities survey. Superintendent of Schools for Foothills School Division, Chris Fuzessy, commented, “The Government of Alberta's commitments to public education are of great importance to Albertan society. Our current reading of the budget leaves it unclear whether any an increase to the basic per capita grant is included in this year’s budget; we look forward to clarification on this important point. Continued enhancement of classroom support is appreciated and remains necessary for maintaining the quality of educational experiences and learning opportunities for all students. We are awaiting the detailed funding profiles to plan and effectively allocate resources for the upcoming school year."
Informed by the community’s input, and scaffolded by the funding profile from the Province, the Foothills School Division will release its budget for the 2025-2026 school year in May 2025, after it is approved by the Board of Trustees.
