Lockdown
For when there is a threat of violence or other crisis that occurs inside the building and moving around or evacuation could increase the risk.
During an active lockdown, families will be notified by email as well as a voice message from the Division as soon as possible. Additional information and updates will be shared via email.
Hold and Secure
For when it is necessary to secure the building due to an emergency threat occurring outside the school. A Hold and Secure may be escalated to a Lockdown.
During an active hold and secure, families will be notified by email as soon as possible.Hold and Maintain
This procedure occurs when a member of the school community needs medical attention, a safety intervention, and/or privacy.
During an active hold and maintain, families will be notified by email if emergency services were on scene to support a community member.
Shelter in Place
This is used when personal safety is considered to be in danger if anyone leaves the building. This is mainly used for environmental, weather-related events, or wildlife risks. It can also be used in case of a system failure, i.e. a gas leak or chemical release out of doors.
During an active shelter in place, families will be notified and updated by email when possible.Evacuation
Occur to safely remove students and staff from the building when there is an internal threat such as a fire, gas leak, bomb threat, or significant building damage.
During an active evacuation, families will be notified by email as well as a voice message from the Division as soon as possible. Additional information regarding safe pick up will be shared via email.
Receiving Communications in an Emergency
FSD and its schools use a secure mass communication system to issue voice messages/calls and emails. If you have received a newsletter from the Division or a phone call regarding your child's attendance, those are through this system. It relies on updated information and consent to contact you.
If you do not currently receive emails from FSD because you have not opted-in or have unsubscribed, you may not receive emergency alerts.
If you wish to re-subscribe to FSD emails or to update your email or phone numbers with us, please re-submit a Student Verification Form in Edsembli and provide your consent to emails. These forms are required annually to ensure we have updated information.
