A small school with a big heart is building belonging every day

2026-CIM

In Diamond Valley, C. Ian McLaren School knows that belonging is more than a goal. It is the foundation for learning, growth, and success. As a small K-6 school serving approximately 150 students, C. Ian McLaren School (CIM) is intentionally creating a place where every learner is known, valued, and supported.

This year, the school is expanding opportunities for student voice and leadership through its inspiring theme, "We all have superpowers. What are yours?" Students are taking on meaningful leadership roles, participating in Cougar Team initiatives, and helping shape the culture of their school community. Through makerspace learning, hands-on experiences, assemblies, and collaborative activities, students are discovering their strengths while learning that their contributions matter.

The school's work reflects the work of Foothills School Division and the Fast Forward to Flourishing CommUNITY plan by stewarding the conditions for student success through strong relationships, community partnerships, and responsive supports. Staff continue to strengthen a continuum of supports that addresses students' social, emotional, physical, and academic needs while ensuring learning environments remain welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe.

  • 86% of parents indicate the Program of Studies is very high1792184421878.8e7e5429401.png
  • 96% of students indicate that teachers have high expectations

Allision Stewart joined the school community as principal for the 2026-2027 school year and shares, “I see the incredible sense of belonging and community at CIM and look forward to continuing to celebrate our team and students we serve. This school is a gem within Diamond Valley, and you can expect to see more wonderful stories about our learning experiences and student success in the future.”

As the school approaches its 100 year anniversary in 2028, the team at CIM will continue to showcase what staff, students, and families already know: C. Ian McLaren is a small school with a big heart where every learner belongs and can thrive.
