Trustee Campaign Disclosures


Alberta's Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) requires candidates file a financial disclosure statement by March 1 of the year following the election. This includes candidates who ran for the Foothills School Division Board of Trustees in the October 2025 election.

January 1, 2025   Nomination period opens for the October 20, 2025 Election

September 22, 2025   Deadline to submit notice of intent and nomination paperwork for the October 20, 2025 Election

October 20, 2025   FSD Board of Trustee Election

January 1, 2026    Start of the campaign period for the 2029 Trustee Election

March 1, 2026    Deadline for filing final disclosure statements for the 2025 Trustee Election



Candidate Campaign Disclosure Statements


Candidates must submit their notice of intent before accepting campaign contributions or incurring expenses. All candidates are required to submit the following information through a completed Form 26 Campaign Disclosure Statement and Financial Statement*


Campaign disclosure statements filed by candidates are published online by Foothills School Division in accordance with the Local Authorities Election ActResidential addresses of candidates, official agents, and contributors are redacted. 


It is the candidate’s responsibility to read and understand the legislation, or to seek appropriate legal or accounting advice from professionals as required. The candidate is responsible for ensuring that their campaign complies with all provincial laws. The information in these disclosures is provided directly by candidates and has not been independently verified by Foothills School Division. Please contact individual candidates directly if you have questions regarding their financial disclosure statements.

Frequently Asked Questions


  • I didn’t collect contributions or incur expenses in 2025 - do I still need to submit a Campaign Disclosure Statement?
    Yes. All candidates who submitted a notice of intent must submit a Campaign Disclosure Statement and Financial Statement - even if they withdrew from the election or did not accept any contributions or incur any expenses. (LAEA s.147.4)


  • How can I submit my Campaign Disclosure Statement?
    Candidates can submit their documentation to the Returning Officer at Foothills School Division by email at communications@fsd38.ab.ca or during business hours to Division Office in High River. 


  • If my campaign has a surplus or deficit, what are my obligations?
    The candidate must donate an amount to a registered charity that results in the surplus being less than $1,000 and may retain any portion of that amount or donate that amount to a registered charity and report it accordingly. (LAEA s.147.5)


  • What happens if the disclosure is submitted after March 1?
    A candidate who fails to file a campaign disclosure statement on time will have to pay a $500 late filing fee to the school board. (LAEA s.147.7)
