Teaching and learning to resume Wednesday, October 29, 2025

2025-LA-Oct29

To our FSD Community,

The Province of Alberta has passed Bill 2, the Back to School Act, which legislates the end of the lockout and strike of the Alberta Teachers’ Association (click for more information).

With this news, our colleagues who are members of the Alberta Teachers’ Association will be returning to work, and teaching and learning will resume for all students on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

We know the past three weeks have been a challenging time for our community. We thank you for your patience and understanding while we paused learning for students in kindergarten through to grade 12. We look forward to welcoming back all team members, students, and families, and to focus our collective efforts on the engagement, support, and success of all learners.

Resuming Operations

  • All schools will reopen for teaching and learning on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 (view bell times).
  • Bus services will resume as previously scheduled (view bus route status).
  • Student accounts and resources will be reinstated as of Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
  • A reminder of the minor calendar changes (view calendar update)
    • November 24, 2025 – Instructional day
    • April 17, 2026 – Non-Instructional Day
    • April 24, 2026 – Instructional Day

There is no change to the Fall Break as we are aware families schedule activities around the breaks within the instructional calendar.

School and Activity Fees

  • Division Office will be assessing school and activity fees, which may result in a proration, refund, or credit, where applicable.
  • We appreciate your understanding as we take the time to review and complete this process.
    • Fee adjustments will be applied as soon as possible. We commit to sharing further details in the coming weeks.

Next Steps

As our school communities come back together and learning resumes, our FSD team is working hard to support everyone during this transition. Thank you for helping us welcome back our teachers and teacher leaders, and we ask for your patience as teaching and learning resumes.

Yours in learning,

Chris Fuzessy
