Updated April 9: Statement regarding misrepresentation of FSD in April 3, 2026 news article, “Premier and education minister met privately with groups…”

2026-News

April 9, 2026

The following is an update from Foothills School Division Board Chair, Theresa Letendre:

Following up on the statement made earlier this week, I would like to share that the Board convened a Special Meeting to reaffirm clarity in how Foothills School Division is represented and is satisfied that the public record regarding the February 18 meeting has been appropriately corrected.

With that clarity now in place, we are moving forward and I share the following statement on behalf of our colleague:

I would like to correct the public record of the meeting held on February 18, 2026. I mistakenly identified myself as a representative of Foothills School Division when, in fact, I attended the meeting as a private citizen.

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, I spoke with the Premier’s Office to clarify that my attendance was in my private capacity and that Foothills School Division should not have been recorded on the visitor’s log.

I apologize for any misunderstanding that this has caused to the Premier’s Office, the Foothills School Division community, and to anyone else who may have been impacted. I thank everyone for their gracious understanding in this matter.

Foothills School Division has requested a correction in a news article posted on April 3, 2026, titled Premier and education minister met privately with groups….  In an April 4, 2026, email from the Foothills School Division Board Chair, Theresa Letendre to the article’s author, Brett McKay, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter of the Investigative Journalism Foundation, she states,

The article states that representatives from Foothills School Division attended the February 18 meeting. This statement is inaccurate. Neither I, as Board Chair nor the Superintendent—who are the only individuals authorized to represent the Division in external engagements—were in attendance, and no authority was delegated for anyone to attend on behalf of Foothills School Division.

As written, the article implies that Foothills School Division was formally represented at this meeting. This is not the case, and it is important that this be corrected to avoid misrepresentation of the Division’s role and position.

Foothills School Division is committed to ensuring that all students learn in safe, caring, respectful, and inclusive environments, as reflected in our Board Policy 14: A Place for All. Our governance and representation practices are grounded in these values, as well as in transparency and accountability to the communities we serve.

We request that a correction or clarification be issued immediately to accurately reflect that Foothills School Division was not represented at this meeting.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
