Flags at Half Mast until February 17, 2026
Foothills School Division sites have placed flags at half-mast out of respect for the community of Tumbler Ridge, BC. Read statement from FSD.

If your child asks why the flag is lowered, here are some developmentally appropriate responses:
- “The flag is lowered to show respect because people in a community in Canada were hurt. When something sad happens, lowering the flag is one way we show care and support.”
Helpful guidelines
- Keep answers short — long explanations can increase anxiety.
- Use gentle, neutral language such as hurt or sad event.
- Reassure safety — children often worry it could happen to them.
- Follow their lead — answer only what they ask, not more.
