Welcome to our New Band/Music Teacher

My name is Jaime Cotterall-Bolen, and I am absolutely thrilled to be joining your school community as the new Band and Music teacher! It’s a true privilege to step into a program where I can share my passion for music, creativity, and student growth—and I can’t wait to get started.
With over two decades of experience developing successful music and band programs from the ground up, I’ve seen firsthand how music can transform a student’s school experience. From leading large-scale concerts and jazz ensembles to sparking joy with ukuleles and world drumming in elementary classrooms, I bring a wide range of tools, energy, and creative ideas that help hook kids into loving music—no matter where they’re starting from.
Throughout the year, we take part in many exciting and unique events that go far beyond traditional classroom learning. Our program is built on creativity, connection, and community.
In the past, we’ve partnered with high school students and teachers, professional musicians (including members of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra), and retired band directors to bring fresh perspectives into our rehearsals. Our concerts are never “just another concert”—we’ve collaborated with tech students to film performances and even created a music video that premiered at the Canyon Meadows Theatre!
In the spring, we love celebrating with events that bring families and the community together. At my previous schools, our Spring Concert was a full-on festival, with students performing outdoors on a mini stage, while families enjoyed djembe and dance classes, food trucks, and a BBQ—followed by a full band concert in the gym. Last year, we co-hosted a Grade 6 Band Festival with Heritage Heights and Connect Charter. Students worked with a guest conductor, shared pizza, and performed together for their families that evening—a highlight of the year we plan to repeat!
One of our most cherished experiences is Band Camp in Kananaskis. Students rehearse with guest conductors, build friendships, and enjoy camp activities in a beautiful setting—a time to grow musically and make lasting memories.
I truly believe music is more than just notes and rhythms—it’s about creating, collaborating, and having fun. I’m committed to growing this program into something students are proud to be part of. Whether your child is picking up an instrument for the first time or already has experience, every student deserves to feel successful and inspired in music.
Parents and families are essential partners in this journey. You’ll hear from me regularly about performances, events, and ways to get involved. Together, we can build a thriving music community that brings joy, school spirit, and lifelong memories to our students.
Thank you for the warm welcome—I can’t wait to make music with your incredible kids!
