Vertical Farming Initiative

OHS Vertical Farming Initiative

The Vertical Farm Initiative at Oilfield Highschool grows vegetables, herbs and micro-greens. The converted sea-can is fully sustainable, indoor growing unit that can be used year round. This method of agriculture aims to be net zero and free from negative environmental impacts.

This bio char vertical farm is run by our students grades seven through twelve. These students are involved in every aspect of the farm from growing crops to sales and marketing. This gives them a grounding in the technology required, the business and sales components, while stressing the environmental and community engagements. Students are learning to be great stewards of our environment and also gaining entrepreneurial skills.

We are excited to continue to grow this project with your support and welcome donations and new customers.

Our Story
We are a student driven program that also involves the local community. Students learn the technical skills required to run a vertical farm, from lighting, watering, cooling, planting and all aspects. They also run the business (net zero) and sell the product, while giving back to the community through food bank donations.
