Foothills School Division is committed to advancing excellence in teaching, leading, and learning through a variety of professional learning opportunities. The Division places a strong emphasis on engagement, support, and success for all by ensuring timely, meaningful, and collaborative engagement with all learners and communities. Professional learning is grounded in maintaining welcoming, caring, respectful, safe, and inclusive learning environments for all.
Professional learning days are thoughtfully structured throughout the year, focusing on collaborative design, innovation, evaluation, and reporting. These days include system-facilitated professional learning sessions, school-led learning mornings, and specialist afternoons. Specific sessions are dedicated to literacy, numeracy, innovation, inclusive learning, and planning for new curriculum.
In addition to these structured professional learning days, Foothills School Division offers various professional development opportunities, such as working with the Alberta Regional Professional Development Consortium and engaging with other experts in the field of education across Canada. Other events such as the Outdoor Learning Winter Challenge, the Outdoor Learning Conference, and the Palliser District Teachers' Convention encourage educators to embrace new ideas, share best practices, and grow professionally.
Foothills School Division's comprehensive approach to professional learning and development ensures that educators are well-supported and equipped to provide excellent teaching and leadership, ultimately benefiting all learners within the division.
