  • All new students to OHS (Grade 7’s and new move in’s) and their families are welcome to attend the new student BBQ on Friday Aug 30th at 12pm-1pm. This is an opportunity to mingle and meet with staff, tour the building, and ask any questions before the first full day of regular classes on Sept 3rd.
  • Students will then be dismissed for the long weekend after the BBQ

Timetable Schedule:

  • All timetable schedules will be posted on edsembli for students to look at starting Aug 23rd. If there are any option changes needed we will inform students their first week back of the process to make those changes. If a student does not log in and look (or can’t), we will be ready to direct students to where they need to be when they show up.

Bell Times for next year:

  • The start and end of the day are the same 8:40am - 3:30pm

Grade 7 -9 Hockey program:

  • We had enough students sign up for the junior high hockey program with Method Hockey, so it is a go. Students can still sign up if they are interested (see attached PDF)

Cell Phone Policy:

  • As you may have heard, the Alberta Government has announced a ‘no cell phone’ policy in schools starting in the fall.
  • I know this will not make students happy, but research is clear that cell phones distract from learning and create other issues we constantly deal with at the school level (gaming, distractions, inappropriate uses, bullying, stolen etc.)
  • We will communicate out to all of you the last week of Aug prior to school stating the policy and procedures for the new policy, but please have a discussion with your child that this will be coming and rules will be in place.

Thank you, a head of time, for your understanding and support in this as the impact to learning will be positive. I have just come from a junior high that was cell phone free for two years now and have greatly seen the benefits.

Office Hours in Aug:

  • The school office will be open starting Friday Aug 23rd at 8am
  • Please note the school is closed Thursday Aug 29 from 12pm on as all FSD staff are meeting at another school
