Attendance

Consistent attendance, punctuality and good work habits are essential for success. Parents and the school work together to ensure students attend regularly to maximize the learning achievement possible.  Our school follows the Alberta Education document here to support students and families with struggling attendance.

If students are absent or will be late, parents or guardians are expected to email the school (heritage@fsd38.ab.ca) before 8:30 am. Parents may leave a message on our attendance phone line however we do prefer an email. If emailing teachers, please include the above email just in case your child's teacher is away unexpectantly so our office staff is in the know.  It is the responsibility of parents and students to make sure all absences or late are excused.  If we have not been contacted by that time our computer system will contact parents at their home number by roughly 9:30 each morning. Students who are absent in the morning only, must check in at the office upon their return to school.

It is our belief that addressing and supporting families as early as possible is the best way to encourage attendance.  In the case of repeated absences, teachers will contact families after 3 consecutive unexcused absences or 5 or more in a given month.  If attendance continues to be a challenge, the office will contact you directly to offer supports to attend school on a regular basis and this could include seeking to understand what stressors contribute to repeated absences and building a plan together.   A formal letter will be provided prior to addressing chronic attendance issues to the FSD attendance officer.

Our doors unlock at 8:15 each morning and teachers will allow students indoors early if weather conditions are poor.  Generally raining or below -20C, inline with our indoor recess policy.  If you must drop off before this time, your child may sit in the front hallway as we do not offer before or after school care.

Picking up early?

Please call or come into the office to check out your child..  All children must check out with office staff to be recorded in the case of an emergency so we may account for all students.  Children being picked up by extended family members or others, please ensure the office is aware of this arrangement you have made and have the name of the person on file.  Identification may be required either through government issued photo ID or the child identifying the person in front of staff members.  Thank you for ensuring this security measure is followed.
