Westmount Wolves

Friday, May 15, 2026

Our hallways are buzzing with that unique, high-energy mix of springtime excitement and end-of-year anticipation. From our youngest kindergarteners joining us to our grade nines tackling final milestones, our calendar is packed to the brim as we race toward a fantastic finish to the school year.

NEW INFORMATION:

Spring Fling Dance: A huge thank you to all the families who joined us for our Spring Fling—it was absolutely wonderful to see our community come together and connect on the dance floor! From the incredible outfits to the unforgettable moves, watching our students cut a rug and make lasting memories with their friends truly made it a night to remember.

Friday PD Day: Our teachers had an incredibly productive Professional Development Day, diving into new reading comprehension assessments and exploring the upcoming Junior High curriculum for next year. Alongside this learning, we carefully crafted next year's class lists—incorporating valuable parent survey feedback to ensure the best possible placements—and capped off a fantastic week by hosting our future Kindergarten students for their official Welcome to the Wolf Pack orientation!

Provincial Achievement Tests: Our Grade 6 and 9 students will be kicking off their first Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) of the school year this week. This initial exam will focus on our students' writing skills, and we have absolute confidence that all their hard work will lead them to great success!

Volunteer Tea: We are thrilled to welcome the community into the building for our upcoming Volunteer Tea on the afternoon of June 18th at 1:30 PM. So many of our school’s best moments and daily programs simply couldn’t happen without the incredible dedication of our volunteers, and we want to celebrate everything you do for our students. Please join us so we can show our appreciation. RSVP here: https://forms.gle/2PZcuLA5aRzpF9N98

OHS Inspection/Fire Drill: We are proud to share that Westmount recently underwent an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) inspection by the Alberta government, and our building passed with flying colors—reaffirming that our school is a safe environment for both students and staff. To add to that success, we also conducted our fourth fire drill of the year this week, with every single person safely evacuated and accounted for in under seven minutes. It is reassuring to see that our rigorous safety procedures are working exactly as they should!

OED Grass Pass Hike: Our Outdoor Education students couldn't have asked for a better day as they hiked Grass Pass, capturing some incredible photos at the summit. We extend a huge thank you to our fantastic parent volunteers for continuing to support these trips and making these memorable outdoor adventures possible for our students!

Book Fair: The Scholastic Bookfair will be at Westmount from May 19th to 22nd in the Learning Commons. Students can shop during scheduled library classes or after school until 4:00 PM with family.

REMINDERS & UPDATES

May is Math Month at Westmount School! May is Math Month at Westmount, and we’re excited to engage our entire K–9 community in joyful, hands‑on math learning all month long. Students will take part in estimation stations, math riddles, daily problem‑solving challenges, new fact‑fluency games, and creative STEM activities designed to spark curiosity and build confidence. Throughout the building, we’re making math learning visible, fun, and interactive to support strong numeracy skills and nurture a positive, growth‑oriented mindset around mathematics. We can’t wait to see our students explore, take risks, and celebrate the many ways math shows up in their world.

Bike Safety at Westmount: To ensure a safe environment for everyone, all students must WALK, their bikes, scooters, and skateboards while on school property. Riding these wheeled devices creates significant hazards near busy entrances and the staff parking lot, increasing the risk of collisions with moving vehicles. By walking, students can maintain better control and remain highly visible to drivers during drop-off and pick-up times. We appreciate the cooperation of our entire school community in following these safety rules to protect our students. Thank you for doing your part to keep our campus safe. As a reminder, please do NOT park in the staff lot at the end of the school day. Thank you.

Musical Theatre Tickets: We’re thrilled to share that tickets for Westmount’s production of SpongeBob the Musical—running May 28 and 29 at Foothills Composite High School—are officially available.
